Revision Breast Surgery
(Initially operated on elsewhere)
For women dissatisfied with the results of a previous breast implant surgery, Dr. O'Daniel can perform revision breast surgery, which usually involves removing and replacing a breast implant. About 20 percent of his breast surgeries are revision procedures.
Reasons for the revision surgery may be physical - such as breast implant hardening or capsular contracture, implant rupture or leakage, or implant shifting. Other reasons are aesthetic - patients may be disappointed with the size, shape or asymmetry of their implants. Revisional surgery is much more complicated than initial breast augmentation surgery: It requires expert knowledge to correctly diagnose the cause of the deformity and the surgical and artistic skill to correct the problem.
This procedure is commonly performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and mild sedation, and patients generally return to work within a few days.
