Ear Tuck
An otoplasty can improve the overall appearance of the face and head by repositioning protruding ears closer to the head, and reducing disproportionately large ears to be in balance with the rest of the face.
Ear tucks may be performed on children as young as six, before they enter school, to keep them from being subjected to cruel classmate teasing.
Dr. O'Daniel reshapes and repositions the ear by making an incision behind the ear, exposing and sculpting the cartilage, then suturing the ear into proper place. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation in our state-of-the-art, office-based Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Recovery includes wearing a head wrapping to ensure that the ears heal in their new, corrected position. Most adults and children are able to return to work or school within a week.
