Eyelid Surgery/Mid-Face Lift
It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul - but drooping upper eyelids and baggy, under-eye pouches can make a person look constantly tired and sad. Eyelid surgery creates a refreshed, vibrant and youthful appearance by removing sagging, excess skin, tightening loose muscle and sculpting fat in the upper and lower eyelids.
Tailoring to each patient's needs, Dr. O'Daniel uses a variety of procedures to create an "un-operated" look that preserves the original shape of a patient's eye and avoids even subtle changes to the eye's natural shape. In fact, Dr. O'Daniel and his oculoplastic surgical colleague, Dr. Gossman, have developed a surgical technique to correct eyes deformed from previous eyelid surgery. This special mid-face lift is an extension of Dr. O'Daniel's regular mid-face rejuvenation procedures, which are aimed at restoring the volume and position of the sagging cheek tissue below the eyelid.
Dr. O'Daniel takes extreme care to minimize visible scars, making his incisions along the natural lines of the eyelids: In the creases of the upper lids to just beyond the outer corner of the eye, where it will blend with laugh lines or other creases; and in the lower lids, just below the lashes or on the inside surface of the eyelid.
He routinely removes the muscles that cause the central forehead frown lines and injects fat to "erase" the lines while doing upper lid surgery, using the same upper eyelid incision. This "surgical Botox" creates the same effect as injectable Botox, but gives a more permanent result. Eyelid surgery is typically performed either as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with a brow lift or facelift, on an outpatient basis. Most people feel ready to go out in public (and back to work) in a week to 10 days, with makeup.
