People started asking, “Have you lost a lot of weight?” I had lost some weight before surgery, but not having that fat pad hanging low on my abdomen made me look totally different. I was so proud. I’d had that fat pad for probably 40 years, and it didn’t matter how much weight I lost, it was always there. Dr. O’Daniel also said it wouldn’t matter how much weight I lost, that it would always be there, and that there was only one way to get rid of it. So, after he got rid of that fat pad, it made a total difference for me and my self-esteem. I feel so much more confident and much prouder of myself now. I’m so happy I found Dr. O’Daniel and had this experience with him. He’s made such a difference in my life. I can’t say enough good about Dr. O’Daniel.
Day of Surgery
I’m a registered nurse, and I did my research on abdominoplasty before my procedure, so I was fully aware of the possible side effects. It’s a rather lengthy surgery, but I had so much faith in Dr. O’Daniel and his abilities that I really had no qualms about this surgery. On the day of surgery, they called me back to get me prepped and his surgical nurse talked to me about the surgery. I never had the first misgiving.
Dr. O’Daniel came to the pre-surgery area to talk to me once again, and he put me completely at ease. He reiterated what would happen and how it would happen, and he gave me the instructions for aftercare. I don’t think I could’ve been more at ease. I was given anesthesia, and when I woke up, I literally felt no pain. When I woke up, I was bandaged. I was in a wrap bandage, and I looked like a mummy. I was excited, and I wanted to see the results so bad, but I couldn’t since I had to keep the bandages on for a couple of days before I could take them off. Following surgery, my wife drove me home, and that was my day of surgery.
The only pain medication I took was when I first got home, I took ½ of a pain pill. Other than that, I experienced no pain. Some people might find that hard to believe, but the only time I experienced any discomfort was when I stood up straight and it wasn’t bad, but a pulling/stretching of the skin feeling. That area of my body had not been tight for years, and it was a whole new experience. I had two suction drains that were pinned to my bandages. Those had to be drained twice a day for the first couple of days, and we had to measure how much drainage came out of the drain each time they were drained. My wife did a fantastic job taking care of me. At my appointment about 5-7 days following surgery, Dr. O’Daniel, removed the first drainage tube, and I didn’t feel any pain or tugging at all.
The second drainage tube was removed a week or so following the first. My wife helped me the first couple of days at home, and then I was able to take care of myself. I just took it easy. There was no going to the gym for a while, in fact I didn’t go to the gym for about six weeks, but I did go back to teaching home health aides about a week after surgery since there’s nothing strenuous about teaching. Everything Dr. O’Daniel said would happen during my procedures was exactly what happened, which tells you exactly how bright and experienced a surgeon he is, and I can’t imagine finding any better surgeon than he is. I can’t imagine recovering any better than I did from my procedures, and that’s all because of Dr. O’Daniel.
