For a long time, the go-to option for those who wanted to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat on their body was liposuction. Liposuction is still certainly a very viable option but it’s not the only choice available. A new form of treatment called CoolSculpting now offers people a non-invasive way to get rid of fat.

When it comes to which treatment is best for you, it will depend on the areas being treated and the time frame you want to see results in. To help you come to your own conclusion, below is an explanation of both treatments.

Liposuction is a form of cosmetic treatment where fat is sucked out of the patient’s body. Small incisions are made in the area being treated and IV fluid is used to loosen the fat, which is then sucked out of the body.

Liposuction is an effective and safe treatment that is sought out by thousands of people across the country every year.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment that differs from liposuction quite significantly although it’s used to accomplish the same thing i.e. getting rid of stubborn pockets of fat on the body. With CoolSculpting, rather than directly removing fat from the body, the fat cells are cooled, which eventually causes them to die naturally.

The treatment was developed by two Harvard dermatologists who discovered that teething toddlers who were sucking on pain-relieving popsicles were developing cheek dimples. This discovery led to them developing CoolSculpting as a fat loss treatment.

The advantages of CoolSculpting over liposuction

Although they’re quite different treatments, CoolSculpting does come with some key advantages of liposuction. These include –

    • Non-invasive treatment – CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment. This means there are no incisions made in the skin and there is also no need for anaesthetic. This is a big plus for those who have a phobia of invasive surgery or just don’t like the idea.
    • No scarring – Because there are no incisions required with CoolSculpting, there are also no scars left behind.
    • No downtime – Another big benefit of CoolSculpting is that there is little-to-no downtime, making it ideal for those with a busy work schedule.
    • Fewer risks – The fact that CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment means it’s less risky than liposuction. Any form of treatment where an incision is made in the skin comes with a certain amount of risk, no matter how sterile the environment and how skilled the sergeon.
