Neck Lift procedures act as a way to help create the ideal neck – long with great lines and a refined jawline. In the young person genetics can create a full neck and a weak jawline. With age, the skin around the neck can loosen and sag downwards from the jawline, creating folds and bands in the skin that can make us look older than we are.
As with all of our surgical procedures, we would recommend an initial consultation take place with Dr. O’Daniel to ensure that this type of procedure is suitable for you. He will examine photos you bring in from years gone by to evaluate the changes that have occurred and develop a plan to refine your neck.
Many new technologies and drugs have been developed for the neck recently, but these new procedures still cannot give the ideal results of a well-performed necklift procedure. If you are considering any kind of neck treatments, we recommend that you consider the following:
- Your Appearance
Most people will find that their neck has less than an ideal appearance at some point in their lives For some of us, this is not a concern, but for many patients, they may develop a lack self confidence due to the contours and appearance of their neck. As you age you may have a concerned about the signs of aging, including jowls, multiple chins or the “turkey neck” which makes you a good candidate for this procedure.
- Your Age
The majority of patients are older individuals, who are interested in neck lift surgery to restore their youthful form. If you are younger, and suffer from hereditary fat deposits, or if you have experienced a drastic weight loss, then you may also benefit from a neck lift.
- Your General Health
At your initial consultation, Dr O’Daniel will asses your general health. Your medical history will be discussed in detail and every patient will be asked to disclose any important medical information at this time. You will also be asked if you have undergone any previous surgeries, if you suffer from a chronic illness, or if you are currently taking any medications or supplements such as antihistamines, antidepressants or vitamins.
In some instances, certain drugs, underlying medical conditions and prior surgeries may interfere with your procedure and the expected recovery time. Once you are determined to be a good candidate for neck lift surgery measures will be taken to optimize your surgical experience.
- Are You A Smoker
Smoking can be detrimental to your overall health and the recovery time from any type of surgery. You will need to quit smoking at least two weeks prior to your surgery and you will have to remain smoke-free during your post-procedure recovery period.
- Do You Have Realistic Expectations?
If you suffer from poor body image, neck lift surgery is not guaranteed to make you feel better about your appearance as a whole. While it can remove excess or sagging skin to create a younger and more lithe appearance, it will not prevent the ongoing signs of aging in other areas of your body.
Dr. O’Daniel will thoroughly review the procedure with you, as well as the expected recovery time and any other pre and post operative requirements. If you would like to find out more about the neck lift surgery option available with Dr. O’Daniel, please call his team, today on 502.584.1109
